A musical stage adaptation of “Mystic Pizza,” featuring the songs of Melissa Etheridge, is in development.
The adaptation of the 1988 film will feature a book by Gordon Greenberg, the director and co-book writer of “Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn,” and Sas Goldberg, who recently starred in “Significant Other” on Broadway. Greenberg will also direct the musical.
Etheridge is a two-time Grammy Award winner and an Academy Award winner for her song “I Need to Wake Up.”
Lively McCabe Entertainment is developing the musical. The musical will be published and licensed by the newly formed Concord Theatricals.
“Mystic Pizza” is “currently in development,” according to the press release, and will announce the rest of the creative team and production plans at a later date.
