“Hamilton” has announced a new, incoming principal cast member. Morgan Anita Wood will join the long-running musical as Eliza Hamilton beginning on July 16 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Wood replaces Stephanie Jae Park, who will complete her run on July 14.
Wood is no stranger to “Hamilton,” having been an original company member of the musical’s 2019 “And Peggy” tour, in which she performed in the ensemble and understudied Eliza, Angelica Schuyler and Peggy Schuyler. She later played Eliza full-time and replaced in various “Hamilton” touring companies. A winner at age 12 of the CBS reality series “Kid Nation,” Wood also appeared in “Kinky Boots” at the Hollywood Bowl.
"After nearly six years on tour with ‘Hamilton,’ the opportunity to make my Broadway debut in this incredible show is truly a dream come true,” Wood said in a statement. “Playing the role of Eliza, I feel so lucky to share this story with audiences every night."
Featuring a Tony Award-winning book and score by Lin-Manuel Miranda, “Hamilton” is directed by Thomas Kail. Inspired by Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of the first secretary of the treasury, the musical chronicles the key players in the founding of the United States of America. “Hamilton” opened on Aug. 6, 2015 and received 16 Tony nominations, winning 11.
In addition to Park, the current principal cast of “Hamilton” includes Trey Curtis as Alexander Hamilton, Bryson Bruce as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, Rubén J. Carbajal as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, Jared Dixon as Aaron Burr, Tamar Greene as George Washington, Jennie Harney-Fleming as Angelica Schuyler, Jarrod Spector as King George III, Ebrin R. Stanley as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison and Cherry Torres as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds.
“Hamilton” is produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman and the Public Theater.
