“MJ,” the Michael Jackson musical, has moved its first preview date to September 2021.
The musical, produced by Lia Vollack Productions and the Michael Jackson Estate, was scheduled to make its world premiere this spring, but had to shift the date due to the extended shutdown on Broadway. “MJ,” which is set to star Ephraim Sykes as the title character, will play the Neil Simon Theatre.
A new opening date has not yet been announced.
The musical features the songs of Jackson and a book by Lynn Nottage and direction and choreography by Christopher Wheeldon.
This is the second time the musical has rescheduled its Broadway premiere. It was originally intended to begin performance July 6, 2020.
