“The Lost Boys” is set for a Broadway debut. An adaptation of the 1987 Warner Brothers film of the same name, the new musical will take a world premiere bow in spring 2026 at the Palace Theatre. The previously announced musical will feature direction by Michael Arden and be produced by James Carpinello, Marcus Chait and Patrick Wilson.
Featuring a book by David Hornsby and Chris Hoch set to a score by the rock band the Rescues, “The Lost Boys” follows teenage siblings Michael and Sam, who, along with their mother, are newly transplanted to the fictional California town of Santa Carla. They soon discover the town is a hotspot for vampiric activity.
Arden is a Tony Award winner for his direction of the “Parade” revival and is currently represented on Broadway as the director of “Maybe Happy Ending.” Arden also received Tony nominations for directing revivals of “Once on This Island” and “Spring Awakening.”
“Michael Arden is one of the most dynamic directors working today, and to have him reimagine an iconic film like ‘The Lost Boys’ is thrilling, especially when we consider how it will come to life at the legendary Palace Theatre,” said Carpinello, Chait and Wilson in a joint statement. “David Hornsby and Chris Hoch have done a remarkable job of honoring this classic film and its beloved characters, creating something new and unique for the stage that will excite the die-hard fans of the movie as well as those being introduced to this timeless story for the first time.”
The creative team for “The Lost Boys” will also include Tony Award-nominated scenic designer Dane Laffrey, Tony-winning costume designer Susan Hilferty, Tony-nominated music supervisor Ethan Popp, co-choreographers Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant, general manager Bespoke Theatricals and executive producer Devin Keudell.
“The Rescues [have] created an epic new score full of original songs, we’re thrilled that they’ve also been able to breathe new life into a few of their existing melodies, reworking them for ‘The Lost Boys’ in ways that devoted fans of the band are sure to appreciate,” the trio continued.
Casting, by the Telsey Office/Craig Burns and Kristian Charbonier, as well as production dates and additional members of the creative team, will be announced. An invitation-only industry presentation of “The Lost Boys” will be held on March 14.
Prior to the mounting of “The Lost Boys,” the Palace will host a revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross.” The Palace’s most recent tenant, “Tammy Faye,” completed its run in December 2024.
“The Lost Boys” is being produced by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures. Mark Kaufman and Lauren Shuler Donner will serve as creative consultants.
