A new production of “Miracle on 34th Street” will hit the road in 2025. The musical, which features a book and score by “Music Man” scribe Meredith Willson, will be directed and choreographed by Antoinette DiPietropolo. Premier Theater Productions will produce the production, while Creative Booking Agency will serve as the tour’s booking agent. ARDA Studios will provide production design and special effects.
Based on the 1947 movie of the same name, “Miracle on 34th Street” follows young Susan Walker, who doubts the existence of Santa Claus. However, the Santa working at Macy’s Department Store may change her mind. The musical opened on Broadway in 1963 under the name “Here’s Love,” starring Janis Paige, Laurence Naismith, Craig Stevens and Valerie Lee. Following its July 1964 closing, “Here’s Love” toured from August through December of that year.
The new version of “Miracle on 34th Street” premiered in 2018 at Kodak Center Theater in Rochester, New York, after Premier founder Jim Vollersten discovered a strong audience demand for the show. “Many years ago we surveyed our audiences at the Kodak for their favorite Christmas shows and we were amazed that so many patrons declared ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ as their number one choice,” Vollersten said in a statement. “This was the catalyst for us to enter into an agreement with Music Theatre International (MTI), who granted the rights to produce two regional theatre productions of ‘Miracle on 34th Street.’ [Their] unwavering success led to our long-standing desire to take this blockbuster holiday title across the country for a national tour.”
“Meredith Willson's ‘Miracle on 34th Street’ has been a holiday favorite for theatres around the country for many years,” added Drew Cohen, president and CEO of MTI. “We are delighted that with this new tour, the beloved show will play to thousands of new audience members. This joyous, heartwarming musical is pure family entertainment and is sure to leave everyone feeling like ‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!’”
Casting, additional members of the creative team and the tour’s itinerary will be announced.
“Miracle on 34th Street” is being produced by special arrangement with MTI.
