Melissa Etheridge’s autobiographical Broadway show, “My Window,” was honored with a GLAAD Media Award on May 11. The Main Stem engagement took home the award for Outstanding Broadway Production. Ross Matthews hosted the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards ceremony, which was held at the New York Hilton Midtown.
Etheridge’s award was presented by fellow Broadway alum Uma Thurman (“The Parisian Woman”). Other nominees in the Outstanding Broadway Production category were “Fat Ham,” “How to Dance in Ohio,” “Once Upon a One More Time” and “The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window.”
“Melissa Etheridge: My Window” played a limited engagement from Sept. 28 through Nov. 19, 2023, at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Directed by Amy Tinkham, written by Etheridge with additional material by Linda Wallem Etheridge, the show took audiences through Etheridge’s life challenges and celebrations, including coming out, launching her music career and embracing parenthood. The Broadway mounting followed a three-week world premiere Off-Broadway run, which played New World Stages in October 2022.
Another GLAAD Media Award win on the Broadway front was for Jennifer Hudson (a Tony Award winner for co-producing “A Strange Loop”), who triumphed in the category of Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode (for the episode “Jennifer Hudson Surprises HIV Activist with $10,000” of her talk show “The Jennifer Hudson Show”).
