In a time frame that encompassed both the week following Labor Day weekend and the start of NYC Broadway Week, the Main Stem box office took a dip. Collective gross for the week ending Sept. 8 totaled $25,461,584 for 26 shows, a 9.5% decrease from the previous week (when 25 shows were playing). Attendance experienced a much slighter drop, dipping 1.4% from the week ending Sept. 1 to 220,582 admissions. Seats in theaters were filled to 90.9% capacity in week 16 of the 2024-2025 season, a decrease of 3.7%.

Compared to the week prior, the percentage drops in gross total and attendance is below the recent average post-Labor Day dip. The average week-over-week decrease from the week including Labor Day weekend to the following week that was seen during the 10-year period from 2012 through 2023 (not counting 2021 which only had a few shows running and the COVID-induced hiatus of 2020) is 12.3% down for gross and 5% down for attendance. Again, this year’s gap was 9.5% down for gross and 1.4% for attendance.
