Mattel will release ‘Wicked’ dolls to coincide with film adaptation

Dolls of ‘Wicked’ characters Elphaba, Glinda and Nessarose will be available.

In advance of the upcoming Universal Pictures film adaptation, Mattel has announced the release of several “Wicked”-themed dolls. The dolls will feature the likeness of “Wicked” film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda and Marissa Bode as Nessarose. All dolls are available for pre-order and will be released on Oct. 1.

Seven dolls comprise the collection, including the Elphaba, Glinda and Nessarose fashion dolls, all of which come with a removable outfit and accessories.

Additionally, the deluxe Elphaba doll includes her signature cape and broom, while the deluxe Glinda fashion doll features the pink ballgown. Both deluxe dolls can be posed using 11 different points of articulation.

Finally, the singing Elphaba and Glinda dolls allow the figurines to sing “Defying Gravity” and “Popular,” respectively, with the push of a button.

The “Wicked” film will be released in two parts; the first will premiere in cinemas on Nov. 22. In addition to Erivo, Grande and Bode, the film will feature Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Jon M. Chu will direct.
