Broadway veteran Mandy Gonzalez has been announced to play the starring role of Norma Desmond at select performances of “Sunset Boulevard.” Beginning on Oct. 22, Gonzalez will generally play the role once per week (during most Tuesday performances), though ticket-buyers are being encouraged to check the schedule on the show’s website before purchasing.
The previously announced Broadway revival, directed by Jamie Lloyd, is slated to begin previews on Sept. 28 and officially open on Oct. 20 at the St. James Theatre. The role of Norma will regularly be played by Nicole Scherzinger.
Gonzalez, most recently seen on Broadway as Angelica Schuyler in “Hamilton,” is perhaps most known for originating the role of Nina Rosario in “In the Heights.” Her Main Stem credits also include turns as Elphaba in “Wicked,” Sarah in “Dance of the Vampires,” Amneris in “Aida” and an appearance in the ensemble of “Lennon.”
Arriving on Broadway following an Olivier Award-winning run in London, this production of “Sunset Boulevard” will also star London cast members Tom Francis as Joe Gillis, Grace Hodgett-Young as Betty Schaefer and David Thaxton as Max Von Mayerling.
Additional casting, by Jim Carnahan and Jason Thinger, is still to be announced.
“Sunset Boulevard” is being produced on Broadway by the Jamie Lloyd Company, Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and Gavin Kalin Productions by arrangement with the Really Useful Group Ltd.
