The Louis Stancil Acting Studio will now have a presence in New York City. One of the few Black-owned acting studios in the country, the studio is being billed as an inclusive space dedicated to supporting new talent from historically underrepresented backgrounds through scene study, voiceover and screenwriting. A grand-opening event will be held on Aug. 10 at the studio’s Midtown Manhattan location at 1560 Broadway.
“As an actor and teacher, I understand the importance of representation and having a space where you can be yourself,” said founder Louis Stancil in a statement. “Opening a studio in New York City is a dream come true. I’m excited to see the incredible talent that will come through these doors and to continue fostering a community where diversity is celebrated and everyone has the opportunity to shine.”
Stancil, a Baltimore native, has worked as an acting coach on the sets of “Christmas Ringer,” “Pretty Stones, “Respectfully Justin” and “Charm City Kings.” In addition, he worked on the casting team of the series “About Him 2: The Revolution.” His television co-producing credits include “Miskits” and “Gwen’s World of Weird.” In January 2020, he opened his acting studio in Atlanta; a Los Angeles location followed in 2022.
The August opening, scheduled to take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., will include a ribbon cutting, live performance and studio tours. Pretty Vee, one of Stancil’s clients, will serve as host.
