A filmed version of the stage musical “Frozen” will be released on Disney+. The film is a live capture of the West End production that was shot at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

Directed by Michael Grandage and based on the 2013 animated Disney motion picture of the same name, “Frozen” is a story of sisterhood which centers on older sister Elsa, who is unable to control her magical ability to freeze people and objects. After inadvertently freezing their world in an eternal winter, Elsa flees, and her younger sister, Anna, journeys to find her and save the kingdom. “Frozen” features a Tony Award-nominated book by Jennifer Lee and a Tony-nominated score by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

The West End production of “Frozen” opened at Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Sept. 8, 2021. The production was nominated for four Olivier Awards, including Best Musical.

“Frozen” premiered on Broadway on March 22, 2018 at the St. James Theatre and was nominated for three Tony Awards. The production closed on March 11, 2020, one of a handful of shows that retroactively concluded its run following the pandemic-induced suspension of performances. A North American tour launched in November 2019.

A release date for “Frozen” on Disney+ is still to be announced.
