The Telsey Office and Lin-Manuel Miranda and family have partnered to launch a casting fellowship program for underrepresented artists.
The Telsey Office Miranda Casting Fellowship will offer individuals a two-year, full-time paid position that includes learning how to cast musicals, plays, television, film and commercials. The goal is to create more opportunities in the casting industry for artists who are Black, indigenous or people of color and to create more diversity within the field.
“For so long systemic inequities and a lack of paid training opportunities have kept historically underrepresented communities, especially Black, Indigenous and People of Color, from entering the Casting industry,” Miranda said in a press release. “This fellowship in partnership with Telsey adds a new dimension to our fellows programs, now in its fifth year.”
The Miranda Family, which is a partner on the program, has existing partnerships with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, Rhode Island College and Posse Foundation and supports more than 60 artists and arts administrators of color.
The casting fellows will train within this larger network, as well as within the Telsey casting office. The Telsey Office casts “Hamilton,” as well as numerous other Broadway and entertainment projects.
“This effort comes from the heart and our sincere commitment to investing in the future of the casting profession” said Bernard Telsey, owner of the Telsey Office. “This fellowship opens a door to a wealth of talent to be identified and nurtured.”
