Lillias White will rejoin the company of “Hadestown.” White will step back into the role of Hermes on Oct. 22 at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre. She will succeed Stephanie Mills, who will play her final performance in the role on Oct. 20.
“I am elated and thrilled to rejoin this illustrious cast, crew...and what a band!,” White said in a statement. “I am looking forward to seeing all the repeat visitors coming to the Walter Kerr Theatre.”
A Tony Award winner for her featured turn in 1997’s “The Life,” White previously played Hermes from September 2022 to March 2024. She was the first female actor to take on the role. White’s additional Main Stem credits include appearances in “Barnum,” two productions of “Dreamgirls,” “Cats,” “Once on This Island,” “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” “Chicago” and “Fela!,” the latter of which earned the actor a second Tony nomination.
In addition to Mills, the current principal cast of “Hadestown” includes Jordan Fisher as Orpheus, Phillip Boykin as Hades, Maia Reficco as Eurydice and Yola as Persephone. As previously announced, Lana Gordan will temporarily join the company as Persephone on Oct. 20; Allison Russell will take over the role on Nov. 12.
Featuring a Tony-winning score and Tony-nominated book by Anaïs Mitchell, “Hadestown” is a modern adaptation of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The musical opened on April 17, 2019, and was nominated for 14 Tony Awards, winning eight, including Best Musical.
“Hadestown” is produced by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold and Tom Kirdahy.
