“The Lifespan of a Fact” will feature Broadway’s first all-female design team for its production opening this fall.
Assembled by director Leigh Silverman, the play will include scenic design by Mimi Lien, costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by Jen Schriever, sound design by Palmer Hefferan and projection design by Lucy Mackinnon. “The Lifespan of a Fact,” starring Daniel Radcliffe, Cherry Jones and Bobby Cannavale, is slated to open at Studio 54 on Oct. 18, 2018.
The play is written by Jeremy Kareken, David Murrell and Gordon Farrell, and is based on a book written by John D’Agata and Jim Fingal.
Women have historically been underrepresented in the creative fields on Broadway. According to an analysis of shows that opened last season by entertainment technology company ProductionPro, 80% of the season’s directors, 81% of lighting designers and 96% of sound designers were male. There was more parity in costume design, which skewed 54% female.
In 2016, “Waitress” made headlines for Broadway’s first all-female creative team, made up of director Diane Paulus, composer Sara Bareilles, book writer Jessie Nelson and choreographer Lorin Latarro.
