Broadway News has learned that Lea Salonga took the stage at “Here Lies Love” during the July 5 and 6 performances. A reason for her earlier-than-planned appearance was not given.
Salonga is not expected to perform again until July 11, when she begins her limited engagement in the cast of the new musical. She will then remain with the production through August 13.
In addition to her stint as Aurora Aquino — mother of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino — Salonga is a member of the show’s producing team.
“Here Lies Love” began previews on June 17 and is scheduled to open on July 20. Developed and directed by Alex Timbers and conceived by David Byrne, the production features music by Byrne and Fatboy Slim and lyrics by Byrne.
The musical captures the story of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos (played by Arielle Jacobs) and the country’s history under her power.
“Here Lies Love” is being produced on Broadway by Hal Luftig, Patrick Catullo, Diana DiMenna for Plate Spinner Productions, Clint Ramos and Jose Antonio Vargas.
