DECO Entertainment, founded by Lascelles Stephens and Deborah Cox, has joined the co-producing team of “The Wiz.” The production, which will tour the U.S. before an expected arrival on Broadway, will mark the first Main Stem and touring producing credit for both. Cox is also scheduled to appear in the production as Glinda.
“We’re thrilled to lend support to a show that celebrates Black excellence which means everything to our culture,” said Stephens and Cox in a joint statement. “We feel a deep sense of pride to be able to bring this reimagined version to a whole new generation on Broadway.”
As previously announced, the national tour of “The Wiz” will launch from Baltimore on Sept. 23. Schele Williams will direct with choreography by JaQuel Knight and additional material by Amber Ruffin, Joseph Joubert and Allen René Louis.
“The Wiz” features a book by William F. Brown and a score by Charlie Smalls.
The revival is being produced by Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Brian Anthony Moreland and Ambassador Theatre Group.
