The Broadway League, the national trade association for the Broadway industry, has announced a date for a summer iteration of Kids’ Night on Broadway. The audience development program, which allows individuals 18 years or younger to attend a participating Broadway show for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult, will take place on Aug. 20.
Nineteen Broadway shows will participate, including “& Juliet,” “Aladdin,” “Back to the Future,” “Chicago,” “Hadestown,” “Hamilton,” “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “MJ,” “Moulin Rouge!,” “Once Upon a Mattress,” “SIX,” Suffs,” “The Lion King,” “The Notebook,” “The Outsiders,” “Water for Elephants” and “Wicked.” Additionally, “The Great Gatsby,” which has no performance scheduled for Aug. 20, will host Kids’ Night on Aug. 21.
“Kids’ Night on Broadway is back this summer creating a wonderful occasion for children, teens and families to experience a night out in New York City and enjoy a Broadway show,” interim League president Jason Laks said in a statement. “Featuring a variety of 19 extraordinary shows, Kids’ Night on Broadway creates an opportunity to introduce younger audiences to live theater and cultivate their interest and enjoyment of the arts from an early age.”
In addition to the performance, select shows will offer Kids’ Night post-show talkbacks, sing-alongs, art projects and a custom Kids’ Night activity book, as well as a “My First Broadway Show” sticker for first-time theatergoers.
While the League has hosted this event in the winter annually since 1996, this is the program’s second summer edition. Select venues across the country now host a Kids’ Night event for touring productions. Additional information can be found here.
