Kate Horton, who previously ran the Royal Court Theatre in London, has been named executive producer of “The Music Man,” taking over the tasks of producer Scott Rudin.
Horton will oversee “all aspects of the production,” alongside producers Barry Diller and David Geffen, who remain with the show. Rudin announced in April that he would “step back” from his Broadway productions following allegations of workplace harassment.
This is his latest production to announce changed leadership, following “The Lehman Trilogy,” “The Book of Mormon” and “To Kill a Mockingbird.” “West Side Story” has not yet announced return plans.
Horton is currently the head of Fictionhouse, a London-based independent production company that produces film, television and theater. Horton runs the company with director Dominic Cooke.
At the Royal Court Theatre, Horton worked as artistic director and executive director. Horton previously held executive roles at the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.
“‘The Music Man’ is a joyous love-letter to the United States and a celebration of what we can achieve when we come together. We will ensure our team enjoy the right conditions for creating their most brilliant work and sharing it with the widest possible audience,” Horton said.
Tickets for “The Music Man” were put on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. with previews set to begin at the Winter Garden Theatre on Dec. 20, 2021 and an opening night scheduled for Feb. 10, 2022.
The cast, led by Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, includes the previously announced Jayne Houdyshell as Mrs. Shinn, Jefferson Mays as Mayor Shinn, Marie Mullen as Mrs. Paroo and Shuler Hensley as Marcellus Washburn. Newly named cast members include Remy Auberjonois as Charlie Cowell, Gino Cosculluela as Tommy Djilas and Emma Crow as Zaneeta Shinn.
Jerry Zaks directs the revival, which features choreography by Warren Carlyle and set design by Santo Loquasto.
