Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker have signed on as producers of the upcoming Broadway revival of “The Wiz.” The production is set to launch a national tour in the fall before returning to the Main Stem in spring 2024 at a theater to be announced.
The husband-and-wife team previously served as producers of the 2022 “Piano Lesson” revival, which is Tony-nominated in the Best Revival of a Play category. On her own, Burruss was a producer on “Thoughts of a Colored Man.” Her initial tie to Broadway was as a performer; she appeared as Matron “Mama” Morton in “Chicago” for a two-month stint in 2018.
Burruss is best known to reality television fans as one of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” a series she has been a part of since its second season. She is also a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter known for the TLC song “No Scrubs.”
Tucker is a television production manager and producer. Together, the two run a full-service production company.
“Everything about ‘The Wiz’ is epic!” the pair said in a statement.
Schele Williams will direct the revival of “The Wiz,” which features a book by William F. Brown and a score by Charlie Smalls. The mounting will include choreography by JaQuel Knight and additional material by Amber Ruffin, Joseph Joubert and Allen René Louis.
“The Wiz” is also being produced by Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Brian Anthony Moreland and Ambassador Theatre Group.
