New York City Ballet has announced that works by Tony Award-winning choreographers Justin Peck and Christopher Wheeldon will be featured in the company’s winter season.
Peck, who is also NYCB’s resident choreographer and artistic advisor, will debut his new ballet, “Copland Dance Episodes,” on Jan. 26. The world premiere includes four of American composer Aaron Copland’s scores.
The season also includes two works by NYCB co-founding choreographer and Broadway legend Jerome Robbins — “Fancy Free” and “Rondo,” which was last performed in 1980 — and Wheeldon’s “Liturgy.”
Peck’s Broadway credits include the 2018 revival of “Carousel,” for which he won a Tony for Best Choreography. He also choreographed Steven Spielberg’s 2021 “West Side Story” film.
Wheeldon is a two-time Best Choreography Tony winner for “An American in Paris” and “MJ,” both of which he also directed. He was also the choreographer on the 2002 production of “Sweet Smell of Success.”
The winter season runs from Jan. 17 through Feb. 26. Seventeen ballets will be performed by NYCB’s 100 dancers and apprentices, along with their 62-piece orchestra at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.
The NYCB is under the leadership of artistic director Jonathan Stafford, associate artistic director Wendy Whelan, resident choreographer and artistic advisor Justin Peck and music director Andrew Litton.
