Broadway’s “Spamalot” has announced a new cast member. Jonathan Bennett will take on the role of Sir Robin in the revival of “Spamalot” beginning on Jan. 23. The Josh Rhodes-helmed musical will mark Bennett’s debut on the Main Stem. He succeeds Michael Urie, who will play his final performance on Jan. 21 at the St. James Theatre. Bennett will appear in the role through April 28.

This will be the revival’s second principal replacement this month. As previously announced, Alex Brightman will replace Taran Killam as Sir Lancelot on Jan. 9.

Bennett is known for his turn as Aaron Samuels in the 2004 film “Mean Girls,” which was the basis for the 2018 Tony Award-nominated musical of the same name. (That musical has now been adapted as a movie musical, to premiere on Jan. 12 in cinemas.) Bennett has been featured in several holiday-themed movies on the Hallmark Channel, including “The Christmas House” and “Christmas on Cherry Lane.” Additionally, he starred in the network’s first queer-led romantic film, “The Holiday Sitter,” for which he also served as executive producer. In 2023, Bennett won a GLAAD Media Award in the category of Outstanding Journalism – Long Form for his appearance on the ABC News Soul of a Nation presentation “Pride: To Be Seen."

Urie is set to appear as Prince Dauntless in the New York City Center Encores! presentation of “Once Upon a Mattress” from Jan. 24 through Feb. 4, before rejoining a prior television commitment.

Featuring a Tony-nominated book by Eric Idle and Tony-nominated score by John Du Prez and Idle and based on the 1975 film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” “Spamalot” began previews on Oct. 31, 2023, and officially opened on Nov. 16.

In addition to Urie and Killam, the current cast of “Spamalot” includes Christopher Fitzgerald as Patsy, James Monroe Iglehart as King Arthur, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as the Lady of the Lake, Ethan Slater as the Historian/Prince Herbert, Jimmy Smagula as Sir Bedevere and Nik Walker as Sir Galahad. Steve Martin provides the voice of God. Casting is by JZ Casting.

“Spamalot” is produced by Jeffrey Finn.
