The 13th Annual Jimmy Awards will be held at the Minskoff Theatre on June 27, 2022, the Broadway League announced Thursday.
This marks the first time the competition for high school musical theater performers has been held in person since 2019. The 2020 ceremony was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns and the 2021 ceremony was held virtually in July.
High schoolers from 40 regions across the U.S. will gather in New York City for training sessions and the final showcase this summer. At the end of the ceremony, two students will be presented with the Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress awards.
Several of the competition’s participants have gone onto Broadway careers, including Andrew Barth Feldman, Renée Rapp and Eva Noblezada. Bryson Battle and Elena Holder, both from North Carolina, were the recipients of the top honors at last year’s virtual awards ceremony.
“Over the past few years an increasing number of Jimmy Awards alumni have gone on to star in hit Broadway shows and Touring Productions proving that the Jimmy Awards are really one of the most exciting and inspiring programs for performers and fans alike,” said Charlotte St. Martin, president of the Broadway League.
