Jessica Hecht will return to Broadway in the world premiere production of "Summer, 1976."
Written by David Auburn and directed by Daniel Sullivan (collaborators on "Proof" and "The Columnist" with MTC), "Summer, 1976" is scheduled to begin previews on April 4, 2023, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre ahead of an opening night on April 25.
Hecht, as Alice, joins the previously announced Laura Linney in the role of Diana. The play centers around the two women who are navigating motherhood, intimacy and independence in Ohio during the bicentennial celebrations sweeping the nation.
Last seen on Broadway in 2017's "The Price," Hecht received a 2010 Featured Actress Tony Award nomination for "A View From the Bridge." Select Main Stem credits also include "The Last Night of Ballyhoo," the 2005 revival of "Julius Caesar," "The Assembled Parties" and the 2015 revival of "Fiddler on the Roof."

Commissioned by MTC through the Bank of America New Play Program, "Summer, 1976" will be produced by MTC under the leadership of artistic director Lynne Meadow and executive producer Barry Grove. Production support is provided by the Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater.
