Jerry Zaks has been tapped to direct a musical adaptation of “Mrs. Doubtfire,” produced by Fox Stage Productions and Kevin McCollum.
In addition to Zaks, who recently directed “Hello, Dolly!” on Broadway, the producers have hired book writers John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick, with Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick writing the score. O’Farrell and the Kirkpatricks all worked on McCollum’s “Something Rotten!”
“Getting this team together and crafting ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ for the stage has been pure joy,” McCollum and Bob Cohen of Fox Stage Productions said in a statement. “We can’t wait to get into production.”
Casting and a production schedule will be announced at a later date.
The musical is based on the 1993 Twentieth Century Fox film and the novel “Alias Madame Doubtfire” by Anne Fine.
Alchemation, McCollum’s production company, began a partnership with 20th Century Fox in 2013 to develop titles in Fox’s catalog.
The partners are also producing a “Devil Wears Prada” musical, with a score written by Sir Elton John and Shaina Taub.
