Janet McTeer will star in the world premiere of “Bernhardt/Hamlet” on Broadway this September as part of Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2018-2019 season.
The play written by Theresa Rebeck was commissioned by Roundabout and will be directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel. In the play, set in 1899, McTeer stars as Sarah Bernhardt, as she takes on the career-defining role of Hamlet.
The limited engagement begins previews on Sept. 1, 2018 at the American Airlines Theatre, with an opening night set for Sept. 25, 2018. The play runs through Nov. 18.
In addition to “Bernhardt/Hamlet,” Roundabout announced the world premiere of Lydia R. Diamond’s “Toni Stone” Off Broadway in the Laura Pels Theatre. Uzo Aduba will star as Toni Stone in the production directed by Pam MacKinnon.
“Toni Stone,” which centers on first women to play professional baseball in the Negro Leagues, was also commissioned by Roundabout. The limited engagement begins previews in May 2019.
