Casting is finalized for the upcoming Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) production of the Stephen Sondheim revue “Old Friends.” Jacob Dickey and Kyle Selig round out the company of the previously announced production, which is a transfer from London’s West End, set to begin Broadway previews on March 25 and open on April 8. The revue is slated to play a limited run through June 1 at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
The previously announced Ryan McCartan will no longer appear in “Old Friends”; as previously reported, McCartan will step into the title role of Broadway’s “The Great Gatsby” beginning on Jan. 21.
Dickey is known for multiple tenures playing the titular role in “Aladdin” both on Broadway and on tour. Dickey played the role of Andy in the national tour of “Company,” a role he understudied in the 2021 Broadway revival.
Selig most recently appeared on the Main Stem as Jaco Jankowski in “Water for Elephants.” A 2010 Jimmy Award winner, Selig originated the role of Aaron Samuels in “Mean Girls” and also appeared as Elder Price in “The Book of Mormon.”
The pair will appear alongside the previously reported Bernadette Peters, Lea Salonga, Kevin Earley, Paige Faure, Jasmine Forsberg, Kate Jennings Grant, David Harris, Bonnie Langford, Beth Leavel, Gavin Lee, Alexa Lopez, Peter Neureuther, Jason Pennycooke, Joanna Riding, Jeremy Secomb, Maria Wirries and Daniel Yearwood. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting.
Co-directed by Matthew Bourne and Julia McKenzie and devised by Cameron Mackintosh, “Old Friends” features the work of and serves as a tribute to the legacy of Sondheim, who passed away in 2021. The production will feature choreography by Stephen Mear.
Prior to its Broadway bow, “Old Friends” will be presented by Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group from Feb. 8 through March 9.
“Old Friends” is being produced by MTC, under the leadership of artistic director Lynne Meadow and executive director Chris Jennings, in association with CMI and Daryl Roth.
