New musical “Heart of Rock and Roll,” featuring the songs of Huey Lewis and the News, will make its world premiere at The Old Globe this fall.
The musical, directed by Gordon Greenberg, will play from Sept. 6 to Oct. 21, 2018 at the Old Globe. The book is by Jonathan Abrams, with the story by Abrams and Tyler Mitchell.
Lorin Latarro is the choreographer and Brian Usifer is providing music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations. Lewis’s song catalog includes “Hip to Be Square,” “Do You Believe in Love,” and “Workin’ for a Livin.'”
Additional creative team members include Derek McLane on scenic design, Paloma Young on costume design and Howell Binkley on lighting design.
The show will be presented by Tyler Mitchell, W. Leo Kiely, Bill Kiely, Whitney Kiely Moehle and Tamar Climan.
The musical centers on Bobby, a former rock singer who now works in corporate America, as he looks to reunite with his band, which could jeopardize his job and romantic relationships.
