‘Hamilton’ surpasses $1 billion in overall gross

The 2016 Tony Award-winning Best Musical becomes only the fourth Broadway production to do so. Plus, Broadway box office figures for the week ending Jan. 12.

The Broadway production of “Hamilton” achieved a rare milestone during week 34 of the 2024-2025 season. The 2016 Best Musical Tony Award winner took in $1,855,573 across eight performances, buoying the production’s aggregate gross past the $1 billion threshold, becoming only the fourth Broadway production in history to do so. “The Lion King” accomplished this feat during the week ending Oct. 20, 2013, “The Phantom of the Opera” passed the benchmark during the week ending April 5, 2015 and “Wicked” joined the club during the week ending March 13, 2016. “Hamilton,” however, accomplished this milestone in the fastest time: 416 playing weeks (including previews). “Wicked” hit $1 billion in total gross after 647 weeks, while “The Lion King” and “The Phantom of the Opera” did it in 833 and 1,420 weeks, respectively.
