“Hadestown” has recouped its $11.5 million capitalization, the production announced Monday.

The musical, which won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Musical, recouped its initial investment about seven months after opening on Broadway. It is the first musical of the 2018-2019 Broadway season to announce recoupment.

The announcement comes after “Hadestown” has been consistently selling out performances at the Walter Kerr Theatre, regularly soaring past its gross potential of $1.09 million.

The musical had its highest grossing week in the week ended Oct. 13, reaching $1.5 million, the highest gross for a musical at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

“Hadestown is a testament to the power of live theater to connect us all. It started in 2006 as an indie theater project, traveling around New England in a silver-painted school bus and has grown to something that has touched millions of people,” lead producer Mara Isaacs said in a statement.

“Hadestown,” directed by Rachel Chavkin and featuring a book and score by Anaïs Mitchell opened on Broadway on April 17, 2019. A national tour is planned for the fall of 2020.
