The revival of “Gypsy” canceled all scheduled performances on Dec. 23 as well as Dec. 25 through 28 (the Audra McDonald-starrer was already scheduled to be dark on Dec. 24). A total of seven performances were canceled due to illness within the company, according to the production’s social media accounts.

The George C. Wolfe-helmed and Camille A. Brown-choreographed musical resumed performances with the 3 p.m. matinée on Dec. 29.

Following previews that began on Nov. 21, “Gypsy” opened on Dec. 19 at the Majestic Theatre.

Featuring a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, “Gypsy” is suggested by the memoirs of popular burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee. Set in the 1920s and 1930s, the musical follows Rose (McDonald) and her desperation to make vaudeville stars of her two children, June and Louise. Louise, however, finds herself in the world of burlesque. This production marks the fifth Main Stem revival of “Gypsy.”

In addition to McDonald, the principal company of “Gypsy” includes Danny Burstein as Herbie, Joy Woods as Louise, Jordan Tyson as June, Lesli Margherita as Tessie Tura, Lili Thomas as Mazeppa, Mylinda Hull as Electra/Miss Cratchett and Kevin Csolak as Tulsa. Casting is by Jordan Thaler and Heidi Griffiths.

“Gypsy” is produced by Tom Kirdahy, Mara Isaacs, Kevin Ryan and Diane Scott Carter.
