“Girl from the North Country” will come to Broadway this season.
The musical, featuring the songs of Bob Dylan and written and directed by Conor McPherson, will begin performances at the Belasco Theatre on Feb. 7, 2020, with an opening night set for March 5.
The show comes to Broadway after a run off-Broadway at the Public Theater as well as runs on the West End and at the Old Vic in London.
While it features the songs of Bob Dylan, the show is not a biographical musical. Set in 1934 in Minnesota, the musical follows the proprietors of a guesthouse and the guests who stay there, as they weather the Depression.
McPherson has had three previous plays on Broadway: “The Weir,” “Shining City” and “The Seafarer.”
“Girl from the North Country” will feature scenic and costume design by Rae Smith, lighting design by Mark Henderson, sound design by Simon Baker, orchestrations, arrangements, and music supervision by Simon Hale, with additional arrangements by Simon Hale and Conor McPherson and movement direction by Lucy Hind.
The Broadway production will be produced by Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons for Runaway Entertainment, Steven Lappin, Sony Music Entertainment/Sony ATV, David Mirvish, The Dodgers, Len Blavatnik, Sonia Friedman, Dianne Roberts, John Gore Organization, Nederlander Presentations, Inc., Independent Presenters Network, Rod Kaats, Mary Beth O’Connor and Patrick Catullo, The Old Vic and The Public Theater, with Aaron Lustbader serving as Executive Producer.
Before Broadway, a Canadian production of the musical will premiere in Toronto from September 28 through November 24, 2019
