The stage adaptation of the 2005 film “Good Night, and Good Luck” has revealed a venue and timeline for its Broadway premiere. The previously announced George Clooney-led production will begin previews on March 12, 2025 and open on April 3 at the Winter Garden Theatre, for a limited engagement through June 8. Written by Clooney and Grant Heslov, the movie’s Academy Award-nominated screenwriters, “Good Night, and Good Luck” will feature direction by David Cromer.
In his Broadway debut, Clooney will take on the role of real-life CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow. “Good Night, and Good Luck” follows Murrow as he exposes the lies and corruption of senator Joseph McCarthy’s communist investigation. The play’s title refers to Murrow’s famous on-air signoff. Clooney played the role of Murrow’s colleague Fred W. Friendly in the film version, which featured David Strathairn in an Oscar-nominated turn as Murrow.
Additional casting and the production’s full creative team will be announced.
The Winter Garden is the current home of “Back to the Future,” which, as previously announced, will close in January. “Good Night, and Good Luck” will be only the second straight-play offered at the Winter Garden in the last 40 years; “Wolf Hall Parts One & Two” played the venue in 2015.
“Good Night, and Good Luck” is being produced by Seaview, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Jean Doumanian and Robert Fox.
