Amara Granderson, Tendayi Kuumba, Kenita R. Miller, Okwui Okpokwasili, Stacey Sargeant, Alexandria Wailes and D. Woods have been cast in the upcoming Broadway revival of Ntozake Shange’s “for colored girls who have considered suicide/ when the rainbow is enuf.”
The production is scheduled to begin previews at the Booth Theatre on April 1, ahead of an opening on April 20. ‘For colored girls…’ is scheduled for a strictly limited 20-week engagement.
Camille A. Brown directs and choreographs the production, after having choreographed a 2019 Public Theater production of the show.
Okpokwasili and Wailes reprise their roles as Lady in Green and Lady in Purple, respectively, from the Public Theater run. Woods, who was an understudy in that production, will play Lady in Yellow on Broadway.
Kuumba, currently performing in “American Utopia,” will take on Lady in Brown. Miller (“Once on This Island”) will play Lady in Red. Granderson and Sargeant will make their Broadway debuts as Lady in Orange and Lady in Blue, respectively.
The creative team includes Myung Hee Cho as set designer, Jiyoun Chang as lighting designer, Sarafina Bush as costume designer and Justin Ellington as sound designer. Martha Redbone and Aaron Whitby will contribute original music to the production.
