“Patriots” has finalized its complete cast. The previously announced Broadway transfer of Peter Morgan’s drama will begin previews on April 1 and open on April 22 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The new play, which received a 2023 Best New Play Olivier Award nomination for its run at London’s Almeida Theatre, is scheduled for a limited engagement through June 23. Rupert Goold will direct.
Set in the post-Soviet Union 1990s, “Patriots” follows the decline of billionaire Boris Berezovsky as he confronts Vladimir Putin and the rise of the Russian oligarchs.
The newly announced cast includes Stella Baker as Marina Litvinenko, Ronald Guttman as Professor Perelman, Alex Hurt as Alexander Litvinenko with Rosie Benton as Berezovsky’s Mother and others, Jeff Biehl as Teacher/FSB Boss and others, Peter Bradbury as Voloshin/Nurse and others, Camila Canó-Flaviá as Tatiana/Nina Berezovsky and others, Marianna Gailus as Katya and others, Paul Kynman as Korzhakov/Yeltsin and others, Adam Poss as Lawyer/Home Office and others and Nick Rehberger as Assistant/Kahneman and others.
Completing the company are understudies Benjamin Bonenfant, Danielle Chaves, Joe Forbrich and Tony Ward.
They will appear alongside the previously announced Will Keen, reprising his Olivier-winning performance as Vladimir Putin, Luke Thallon as Roman Abramovich and Michael Stuhlbarg as Boris Berezovsky. Casting is by Jim Carnahan Casting.
Guttman returns to Broadway following his debut in 1987’s “Coastal Disturbances.” Hurt’s most recent Broadway credits are understudy assignments in 2013’s “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Having made her Main Stem debut in 2008’s “Les Liaisons Dangereuses,” Benton most recently appeared in 2015’s “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” Biehl made his Broadway debut in the 2014 revival of “Machinal.” Bradbury has amassed over 20 Broadway credits in the last 25 years, having most recently appeared earlier this season in “The Shark Is Broken.” “Patriots” will mark Canó-Flaviá’s second Broadway performance; she previously appeared in 2018’s “Network.” Rehberger appeared in the 2015 and 2013 revivals of “Fiddler on the Roof” and “The Glass Menagerie,” respectively. “Patriots” will be Forbich’s seventh Broadway credit; he most recently appeared in 2022’s “The Minutes.” Ward made his Broadway debut in 2009’s “The Norman Conquests,” and has since then appeared in over 10 Broadway shows.
Baker, Gailus, Kynman, Poss, Bonenfant and Chaves will all make their first Broadway appearance in “Patriots.”
