Academy Award-winner Faye Dunaway will return to Broadway this summer to take on the role of Katharine Hepburn.
Dunaway will star in the Broadway premiere of “Tea at Five,” a new version of the play written by Matthew Lombardo. John Tillinger, a prolific presence on Broadway, last directing “Don’t Dress for Dinner” in 2012, will direct this production.
Ben Feldman is producing the play, which will play a limited engagement in the summer of 2019.
Dunaway last appeared on Broadway in 1982 in “The Curse of an Aching Heart,” with previous productions including “The Changeling,” “After the Fall” and “A Man for All Seasons.” She received a 1977 Academy Award for her role in the movie “Network,” and has a storied movie career including the films “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Chinatown” and “Mommie Dearest.”
“Tea at Five” premiered at Hartford Stage in 2002 as a one-woman show starring Kate Mulgrew and later played off-Broadway and at subsequent theaters around the country. This will be the first time the play is produced on Broadway.
Lombardo is also the playwright of Broadway plays “High” and “Looped.”
The theater and additional team members will be announced in early 2019.
