“In 1913, women in this country were not allowed to vote,” says Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton at the start of a new promotional video for the musical “Suffs” — premiering exclusively with Broadway News.

Clinton is a producer, along with Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, of the Shaina Taub-penned musical. “Suffs” tells the history of a group of female friends fighting for women’s right to vote in the U.S. at the start of the 20th century. These women became known as suffragists — “suffs” for short.

Emmy Award winner and Broadway alum Rachel Brosnahan provides the voiceover for the video, which also includes appearances by writer-composer-lyricist Taub (who also stars in “Suffs”) and several cast members, including Tony Award winner Nikki M. James, Tony nominee Jenn Colella, Ally Bonino and Hannah Cruz.

“Suffs” will begin previews on March 26 and open on April 18 at the Music Box Theatre. The musical is being produced on Broadway by lead producers Jill Furman and Rachel Sussman.
