Dessie Moynihan, vice president of creative projects for the Shubert Organization, has announced her retirement. Moynihan will depart the company on April 30 after 36 years of service. A successor will be named at a later date.
Moynihan began working for the Shubert Foundation in 1988, first as a program assistant and later program director. In 1993, she transitioned to work part-time for the foundation and part-time for the organization proper.
The Shubert Organization is both a storied professional theater company and the largest theater owner on Broadway. Shubert has operated hundreds of venues in New York City and throughout the United States, currently owning and operating 17 Broadway theaters, six Off-Broadway spaces and the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia. The Shubert Foundation is the sole shareholder of the Shubert Organization and provides operations support and grants to nonprofit theaters and dance companies.
In 1996, Moynihan went full-time with the Shubert Organization, when she officially established the creative projects department. Through this division, Moynihan has been dedicated to finding material for the company to produce, invest in and book into its theaters. For the works that Shubert has lead-produced, Moynihan served as the creative and business point person. In 2006, Moynihan was named vice president; as an executive, she contributed to the organization’s artistic and business aspects.
