The Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) production of “Eureka Day” has received a second extension. The Jonathan Spector comedy will now run through Feb. 16. The play was originally announced as a limited engagement through Jan. 19 and received an initial extension through Feb. 2. Anna D. Shapiro directs the production, which began previews on Nov. 25 and opened on Dec. 16 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Also newly announced is a casting change. Eboni Flowers will step into the role of Carina beginning on Feb. 1. Flowers will take over for Amber Gray, who will play her final performance in the role on Jan 31. Gray is slated to reprise her Tony Award-nominated performance in the West End mounting of “Hadestown” alongside her original co-stars beginning on Feb. 11.

Flowers, who currently plays Winter in “Eureka Day” and serves as the understudy for Carina, has appeared in both the 2019 and the 2021 Broadway productions of “Slave Play.” She most recently appeared as a Witch and Lord in the 2022 revival of “Macbeth,” in which she also understudied Gray.

“Eureka Day” follows the challenges faced by an executive committee of a private elementary school in California, who must examine their liberal vaccine policy following an outbreak of mumps. The company also features Jessica Hecht as Suzanne, Bill Irwin as Don, Thomas Middleditch as Eli and Chelsea Yakura-Kurtz as Meiko.

A replacement for the role of Winter will be announced. Casting is by Caparelliotis Casting and Kelly Gillespie.

“Eureka Day” is produced by MTC, under the leadership of artistic director Lynne Meadow and executive director Chris Jennings, by special arrangement with Sonia Friedman Productions, Wagner Johnson Productions and Seaview.
