Broadway designer Edward Pierce has been elected president of United Scenic Artists Local USA 829.
Pierce takes over the role from Beverly Miller, who has been president since 1995. He was sworn into his three-year term, alongside other executive officers at the USA 829 Board of Trustees meeting on October 13.
The 5,000-member union is an affiliate of IATSE and represents designers, artists, craftspeople and department coordinators working within film, television, opera, ballet and more.
In addition to Pierce, union members elected Deirdra Govan, a costume designer and production designer working in film and television, as vice president.
Hope Ardizzone, a scenic artist for film and television, was elected as national corresponding secretary.
Carl Mulert will take on the role of national business agent, after serving as the business representative for live performance. Michael Smith will continue as national financial secretary.
