Broadway Licensing Global (BLG) has acquired the licensing rights for Alex Edelman’s “Just for Us.” The solo play, which bowed on Broadway during the 2023-2024 season, is now available for licensing through Dramatists Play Service (DPS), an imprint of BLG.
“Theater thrives on authenticity, and Alex Edelman’s ‘Just for Us’ embodies that with every laugh and every moment of reflection,” said Ted Chapin, chief executive officer of BLG, in a statement. “It is a masterful combination of humor and heart that makes audiences feel both entertained and deeply seen.”
“Just for Us” explores comedian Edelman’s experience attending a white supremacist meeting to confront the individuals responsible for online antisemitic rhetoric.
“We are honored that Alex has entrusted Dramatists Play Service with bringing ‘Just for Us’ to theaters across the country,” added BLG chief operating officer Dan Markley. “It’s a show that is sure to resonate for years to come.”
Featuring direction by Adam Brace, “Just for Us” opened on June 26, 2023 at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre, and played a limited engagement through Aug. 19. Edelman received a special 2024 Tony Award for his work. Edelman also won a 2024 Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special for a live capture of the Broadway engagement. Following its Main Stem mounting, “Just for Us” toured the United States.
In addition to DPS, BLG’s other imprints include Playscripts, Stageworks and Broadway on Demand. BLG’s catalog encompasses over 8,00 titles, including the recently acquired “Oh, Mary!,” “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” “Water for Elephants,” “Leopoldstadt” and John Leguizamo’s roster of work.
