The Drama League has revealed key dates for its 2025 awards. Nominations for the 91st annual Drama Leagues, which recognize excellence in both Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, will be announced on April 22, 2025. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on May 16 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom.

Productions must begin previews by April 20 in order to be eligible for the 2025 awards.

The Drama League Awards comprise seven competitive categories, including Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Direction of a Play and Outstanding Direction of a Musical.

A single competitive category exists for performance: the Distinguished Performance Award. Performers can only win the award once in their careers. The 2024 honor went to Sarah Paulson for her turn in “Appropriate,” while “Sweeney Todd” star Annaleigh Ashford was named at the 2023 ceremony.

Additionally, the Drama League bestows four honorary awards, including the Founders Award for Excellence in Directing, Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater, Contribution to the Theater Award and the Gratitude Award. The 2023 honorees included Schele Williams, Jonathan Groff, Jessica Lange and Kandi Burruss.

Founded in 1916, the Drama League provides training, resources and mentorship to directors. Gabriel Stelian-Shanks and Bevin Ross currently serve as the organization’s artistic director and executive director, respectively.
