A few Broadway shows have begun racking up nominations ahead of the Tony Awards.
The Drama League, which honors off Broadway and Broadway musicals and plays, announced its nominations including the Distinguished Performance Award, which will be awarded to one of the 55 actors who were nominated. The ceremony is scheduled for May 18 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square hotel.
In addition to the 55 actors vying for the Distinguished Performance Award, the Drama League recognized the work of six actors who were ineligible this year because they had already received the award. Those actors were: Norbert Leo Butz, Kathleen Chalfant, Nathan Lane, John Lithgow, Bernadette Peters and Mark Rylance.
The Drama League will also offer special recognition to Idina Menzel, Casey Nicholaw and the National Endowment for the Arts.
