The musical “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is newly available for licensing from Music Theatre International (MTI). The holiday-themed musical features music by Mel Marvin and lyrics by Timothy Mason, as well as a book by Mason, adapted from the 1957 children’s book by Seuss.

“‘Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ is an iconic musical that has already made a lasting impression on thousands of people across the United States,” said MTI president and CEO Drew Cohen in a statement. “We are thrilled at the success the show has had with these previous productions and we cannot wait to introduce this musical to a new generation of performers and audience members waiting to meet the world’s most beloved and redeemable green menace.”

“Dr. Seuss Enterprises is excited to continue our partnership with Music Theatre International to bring this musical version of everyone’s favorite holiday tale to schools and theatres,” added Susan Brandt, president and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises. “‘Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ teaches the power of change, the importance of community, and the value of kindness — timeless themes that make The Grinch as relevant today as ever before.”

Set in the fictional Whoville, “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” follows the curmudgeonly Grinch as his heart warms and swells as he learns the true meaning of Christmas. The musical opened on Broadway on Nov. 8, 2006 at the Hilton Theatre (now called the Lyric), playing a limited engagement through Jan 7, 2007. The production returned to Broadway the following year, playing a limited run from Nov. 9, 2007 through Jan. 6, 2008 at the St. James Theatre. Multiple national tours have followed.

Recent licensing acquisitions by MTI include “The Heart of Rock and Roll,” “The Notebook,” “Suffs” and “& Juliet.”
