Disney on Broadway fundraiser canceled after union dispute

The streaming “Disney on Broadway” fundraiser, scheduled to take place Monday, has been canceled after Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS failed to reach an agreement with the American Federation of Musicians.

The streaming “Disney on Broadway” fundraiser, scheduled to take place Monday, has been canceled after Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS failed to reach an agreement with the American Federation of Musicians.

Broadway Cares said in a press release that the organization was unable to reach an agreement with the American Federation of Musicians over the streaming of the previously recorded concert. According to the New York Times, which first reported the news, the musicians’ union had asked for compensation for the players involved in the concert, citing the current hardships faced by its members.

Disney Theatrical Productions, SAG-AFTRA and Actors’ Equity Association had granted permissions for the streaming of the concert, entitled “Celebrating 25 Magical Years of Disney on Broadway,” to move forward.

The fundraiser was meant to raise money for the COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund, which is administered by The Actors Fund.
