Denée Benton is set to join the cast of “Into the Woods” on Broadway in the role of Cinderella.
Benton returns to the company on Nov. 22 after first performing the role in the New York City Center Encores! production in May. She succeeds current cast member Krysta Rodriguez, who is departing the production to star in the Broadway premiere of Anthony McCarten’s play “The Collaboration.” Benton will remain with the production through Dec. 24.
Also returning to the production on Nov. 22 is Joshua Henry in the role of Rapunzel’s Prince. He succeeds current cast member Andy Karl.
The current cast of “Into the Woods,” playing at the St. James Theatre, includes Patina Miller and Montego Glover sharing the role of The Witch, Stephanie J. Block as the Baker’s Wife, Brian d’Arcy James as the Baker, Gavin Creel as the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince, Katy Geraghty as Little Red Ridinghood, Jim Stanek as the Steward, Ann Harada as Jack’s Mother, Cole Thompson as Jack and Alysia Velez as Rapunzel.
Also continuing with the production are Ta’Nika Gibson, Annie Golden, Albert Guerzon, Brooke Ishibashi, Kennedy Kanagawa, David Patrick Kelly, Nancy Opel, Delphi Borich, Felicia Curry, Jason Forbach, Alex Joseph Grayson, Cameron Johnson, Paul Kreppel, Mary Kate Moore, Diane Phelan and Lucia Spina.
Additional casting for the remainder of the run, which is scheduled to play through January 8, is yet to be announced. Casting is by Telsey & Co.
“Into the Woods,” with a book by James Lapine and a score by Stephen Sondheim, is directed by Lear DeBessonet, with music direction by Rob Berman and choreography by Lorin Latarro. Jordan Roth serves as the lead producer.
