Producers Eva Price, Caroline Kaplan and Loudmouth Media have unveiled the full cast for Broadway’s “Redwood.” The new musical, which begins previews at the Nederlander Theatre on Jan. 24, 2025, was developed and first produced by La Jolla Playhouse.
Tony Award nominee De’Adre Aziza will play Mel with Michael Park as Finn, Zachary Noah Piser as Spencer and Khaila Wilcoxon as Becca. They will join the previously announced Idina Menzel, who will star as Jesse. Aziza, Menzel, Park and Piser will reprise the roles they originated in La Jolla.
Additionally, Jessica Phillips will serve as the standby for Menzel’s character, with Daniel Brackett as the standby for Spencer, Bradley Dean as the standby for Finn and Veronica Otim covering the roles of Mel and Becca.
Aziza earned a Tony nod for her turn in “Passing Strange.” Her other Broadway performance credits include “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” and “A Night with Janis Joplin.” Park last appeared on the Main Stem in “Dear Evan Hansen,” having originated the role of Larry Murphy. Other credits include the 2011 revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and the 2013 revival of “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Piser is also a “Dear Evan Hansen” alum, having replaced in the title role; he originated the role of Brad in Broadway’s “KPOP.” Wilcoxon has been seen in “Hadestown” and as Catherine of Aragon in “SIX.”
“Redwood” follows the story of Jesse, a woman facing a life-altering event that drives her to try to escape in the vast redwoods of Northern California.
Conceived by Tony Award nominee Tina Landau and Menzel and directed by Landau, “Redwood” features a book by Landau, music by Kate Diaz and lyrics by Diaz and Landau.
