Broadway’s “& Juliet” has announced a new Lance. David Bedella will join the production on March 5, succeeding the Main Stem’s original Lance, Tony Award winner Paolo Szot, who will exit the musical at the Sondheim Theatre on March 3 and return on July 16.

Bedella originated the role of Lance in the 2019 premiere production of “& Juliet” at Manchester Opera House in the United Kingdom. Bedella transferred with the production to the West End, winning the 2020 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his performance. He won additional Oliviers for his performance in 2003’s “Jerry Springer: The Opera” and 2015’s “In the Heights.” “& Juliet” will mark his Broadway debut.

Featuring a Tony-nominated book by David West Read and a slew of Max Martin pop songs, “& Juliet” opened on Broadway on Nov. 17, 2022 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards. The musical envisions a world in which Shakespeare’s Juliet survives and creates her own destiny.

In addition to Szot, the current principal cast of “& Juliet” includes Tony nominee Lorna Courtney as Juliet, Tony nominee Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Austin Scott as Shakespeare, Justin David Sullivan as May, Charity Angél Dawson as Angélique, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo and Philippe Arroyo as Francois.

Rounding out the company are Daniel Assetta, Andrew Chappelle, Michael Iván Carrier, Phil Colgan, Virgil Gadson, Makai Hernandez, Najah Hetsberger, Bobby “Pocket” Horner, Joomin Hwang, Megan Kane, Alaina Vi Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Brittany Nicholas, Ava Noble, Jasmine Rafael, Matt Raffy, Tiernan Tunnicliffe and Rachel Webb. Casting is by Stephen Kopel and Carrie Gardner.

“& Juliet” is produced by Max Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Jenny Petersson, Martin Dodd and Eva Price.
