Additional participants have been revealed for the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, including several Broadway folk. Tony Award winners Jennifer Hudson and Billy Porter will perform at the 98th annual event, while Tony winner Cynthia Ervio and Cole Escola are slated to make appearances.
Hudson, who will perform a song from her recently released holiday album “The Gift of Love,” made her Broadway debut in the 2015 revival of “The Color Purple.” She won a Tony for co-producing 2022’s “A Strange Loop,” and will serve as co-producer on the upcoming Main Stem bow of “Smash.”
The 2024 recipient of the Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award, Porter won the 2013 leading actor in a musical Tony for “Kinky Boots.” Like Hudson, he also won a Best Musical Tony Award for co-producing “A Strange Loop.” He is part of the producing team of the Broadway-bound solo play “Sugar Daddy.”
Erivo appeared alongside Hudson in the aforementioned “Color Purple,” winning a Tony for her leading turn as Celie. She will portray Elphaba in the upcoming motion picture adaptation of Broadway’s “Wicked,” which will debut in cinemas on Nov. 22. Escola is currently making their Broadway acting and playwriting debut in “Oh, Mary!” For the Off-Broadway run of “Oh, Mary!,” Escola with the Drama Desk’s Sam Norkin Off-Broadway Award.
They will join previously announced Broadway alums Idina Menzel, Lea Salonga, Jonathan Bennett, Liza Colón-Zayas, Ariana Madix, Ginna Claire Mason, Joey McIntyre, Charli D’Amelio, and Sebastián Yatra. The companies of Broadway’s “Death Becomes Her,” “Hell’s Kitchen” and “The Outsiders” will also perform.
The parade, which will start marching from 77th Street and Central Park West and process down to Macy’s Herald Square location, will take place on Nov. 28. The event will be broadcast on NBC and simulcast on Peacock from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in all time zones.
