The Cody Renard Richard Scholarship, which supports aspiring offstage theater professionals, has announced a new partnership with Black Theatre Coalition (BTC). Established in 2020 with the Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC), the scholarship will now be managed by BTC.

“BTC embodies the principles and possesses the capability to expand on the achievements made through BAC and propel [the] CRR Scholarship into its next stage of development,” Cody Renard Richard said in a statement. Richard is an seasoned production stage manager.

Now in its fifth cycle, the scholarship will offer 10 recipients a financial grant as well as online work sessions tied to leadership, community building and mentorship. These recipients will also take an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to meet with mentors, attend panels with leading industry professionals and interact with the Broadway scene firsthand.

According to BTC, “the recipients for this scholarship are Black, Latin, Asian or Indigenous American citizen students in financial need studying non-performance-related theater studies, particularly with a focus in stage management, directing, writing, designing, producing or other administrative fields.” Applications are open through Nov. 4.

BTC was founded in 2019 by T. Oliver Reid and Warren Adams. After being joined by co-founder Reggie Van Lee, the organization achieved nonprofit status in 2020. BTC works to make inclusion a reality in all sectors of Broadway and theater.
