Chilina Kennedy will temporarily take on the role of Myrtle in ‘The Great Gatsby’

Kennedy will step in while original cast member Sara Chase is on medical leave.

Chilina Kennedy will join the Broadway musical “The Great Gatsby” beginning on July 15. Kennedy will play the role of Myrtle Wilson while original cast member Sara Chase takes a medical leave through the summer.

Kennedy was most recently seen on Broadway originating the role of Annie Lewis in “Paradise Square.” Prior to that, she played several stints in the title role of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” throughout its run. Kennedy made her Main Stem debut as Mary Magdalene in the 2012 Broadway revival of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

Kennedy will join a cast led by Jeremy Jordan as Jay Gatsby, Eva Noblezada as Daisy Buchanan, Noah J. Ricketts as Nick Carraway, Eric Anderson as Meyer Wolfsheim, Samantha Pauly as Jordan Baker, Paul Whitty as George Wilson and John Zdrojeski as Tom Buchanan.

Directed by Marc Bruni, “The Great Gatsby” features a book by Kait Kerrigan based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, with music by Jason Howland, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, musical direction by Daniel Edmonds and choreography by Dominique Kelley.

The musical began previews on March 29 and opened on April 25 at the Broadway Theatre. The production took home the 2024 Tony Award for Linda Cho’s costume design.
